New Archives Recovered

Thanks to alum Marta Powell we have been able to recover some missing spots in the Writers’ Festival history! We have now been able to add the winners for poetry and short story for 1973 and the winner for poetry in 1974 as well as part of both of the Aurora magazines for those years (see Magazine Archive). 53rd Writers’ Festival Contest Open!

The 53rd Annual Writers’ Festival Contest is officially open for submissions! See submission information below: Entry Deadline: December 1, 2023 Agnes Scott College’s 53rd ANNUAL WRITERS’ FESTIVAL will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 4-5, 2024. Finalist entries in the Festival Contest will be judged by guest writers Beth Ann Fennelly, Sholeh Wolpé, and and Leticia Urieta ‘09.  Contest categories are poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and playwriting. A prize of $500 will be awarded during the festival to the winning entry in each category. 52nd Writers’ Festival Contest Open

Agnes Scott College’s 52nd Annual Writers’ Festival will be held on Thursday and Friday, March 30-31, 2023. Finalist entries in the Steven R. Guthrie Memorial Writers’ Festival Contest will be judged by guest writers Elizabeth Acevedo, Caryl Phillips, and Samantha Jayne Allen ‘11. Contest categories are poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and playwriting. A prize of $500 will be awarded during the festival to the winning entry in each category. This Week in Celebrating the Writers’ Festival

Good morning, everyone. This week, The New York Times’ A. O. Scott profiles Tilile Olsen in his essay series, The Americans, in which he makes the case that Olsen’s work epitomizes something essential about American literature. Having recently read Yonnondio and remembering the awe I felt reading and teaching “I Stand Here Ironing,” he’s absolutely right!
